Churches Celebrate Birthday at Pentecost Birthday Party

An enthusiastic crowd turned out to celebrate the birthday of the Christian Church at Formby Pool Gardens on Sunday 24th May. After an unpromising morning when rain threatened, the afternoon turned sunny and dry.

The party started with a short service and dramatised reading remembering Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came on the Apostles. The birthday celebrations then continued with a shared picnic, lots of birthday cake and entertainment. ‘In Another Place’ Gospel Choir from Crosby delighted the crowd and lifted the spirits of all. Further musical entertainment was provided by Diane and Phil Vernon with Andy Johnson providing the PA.

The shared picnic was a great success with people gathered on picnic rugs and enjoying the sunshine and food. Children enjoyed the antics of the clown,  having their faces painted and lots of games and crafts. They also enjoyed playing on the new children’s play area in Formby Pool gardens. There was a relaxed atmosphere and great community spirit at this event that appealed to all ages from tots to teens to more mature members. The event finished by everyone singing bind us together, Lord as they held up and waved brightly coloured ribbons.

The event was organised by Churches Together in Formby, Altcar and Hightown as both an outreach to the local community and reminder of the Birthday of the Christian church. A spokesperson from Churches Together said  “It is great to celebrate the birthday of the church in this way with young and old from across Formby, Altcar & Hightown. Over the centuries there have been divisions but through events like this we recognise that there is more that unites us. We really do have good news to share and celebrate. We would like to thank everyone who helped to make this event a success.
